Lunch Run to Katama
September 19, 2025

One of the best things about being a private pilot in New England is how quickly you can get to places that would take half a day by car and ferry. Martha's Vineyard is a short hop across the water, and Katama Airfield (1B2) is a great grass strip on the south side of the island.
Kevin flew down with his wife Elizabeth for a day trip. The flight over was smooth, and Elizabeth was all smiles in the right seat with the coastline and ocean stretching out below.
We landed at Katama and headed straight to Katama Kitchen for lunch. If you haven't been, it's worth the trip on its own — great food in a casual spot just a short walk from the field. And once you check in with the airfield staff, you can even taxi your airplane to a dedicated parking area that's right across the road from the beach!
After lunch we took a flying tour around Martha's Vineyard before heading back home. Hard to beat a day like that!
